What is cryptocurrency ?

Crypto (brief for cryptocurrency) may be a modern shape of computerized cash fueled by cryptography.

It all started with Bitcoin in 2008. It can be used to send money anywhere in the world. For the first time, cryptocurrencies differ from regular bank transfers and other financial services such as Paypal and Alipay in that there are no intermediaries.

what is a middleman or intermediary?

Intermediaries are central institutions such as banks or governments that intervene in transactions between senders and recipients. They have the power to monitor, review, or reverse transactions and may share sensitive information they collect about you with third parties. In many cases, it also determines the financial services you can access.

The situation is different with cryptocurrencies. Transactions connect senders and receivers directly, without the need for cooperation with a central authority. No one else has access to your money and no one can tell you what services you have access to. This is made possible by the underlying blockchain technology of cryptocurrencies.
